rhythm.connection SPECIAL FEATURE: Illionaire Records LIVE in Toronto

Ever wonder what many screaming Korean fans and the thud of the bass in big speakers sound like together? Well that’s more or less the sound we heard on December 18th when we attended the first ever Canadian concert from South Korean hip-hop cats and Illionaire Records co-CEOs Dok2 and The Quiett. Rocking out to a mainly Korean crowd at the Guvernment venue in downtown Toronto, the two rap titans performed some of their biggest hits, riding a wave of popularity generated this year due in part to both their music and their appearance as judges on Mnet’s Show Me The Money season 3.

Prior to their performance, they held a press conference for all the media in attendance, as well as took selfies with winners of a contest hosted by concert producers TR Canada and KME Productions. Opening the show was local acts DJ Fantasy and rapper J.Reyez, and following the show was an after party DJed by the boys of BUNKR. Take a look at our recap of the night!

Around 8PM, a half an hour after media were allowed into the venue, the Illionaire artists began a Q&A with the media for about 20-30 minutes. A full transcript from the Q&A will be available at a later date, but the artists were very frank and honest with their answers to the questions posed – from topics like overseas fans, to Show Me The Money, to their impression of Canada.

Media were then allowed to view the soundcheck prior to ticket holders being let in. This was a preview of what to expect for the night.

Local rapper and YouTube celebrity J.Reyez opened up the show with some of his hit tracks to a very energetic crowd, getting them ready for the main men of the night!

Finally, Dok2 and The Quiett appeared, launching straight into their hit song ‘Profile’ – originally a track featured on label mate Beenzino’s 24:26 album. The crowd threw up their hands and got into the groove of the night. The duo also performed tracks like ‘YGGR’, ‘2 Chains & Rollies’, ‘DON’, ’11:11′, ‘L4L’, ‘치키차카초코초’ and more.
